The Oracast data centre provides the foundation for our hosting platform by providing high-speed bandwidth coupled with 24x7 monitored security systems. Located in Calgary, Alberta, the facility is nestled in one of the most ideal locations in North America. The location itself eliminates one of the world's greatest threats to data which is natural disasters. Additionally, has the second largest number of corporate head-offices in Canada and is one of the most "wired" cities in the world.
The data centre network was designed to be fault tolerant with a multiple carrier peering arrangement on an OC-12 fiber backbone. This benefit provides our clients with the reliability and bandwidth necessary to conduct their day to day business operations. Oracast monitors network usage on a weekly basis and ensures that bandwidth usage remains below 50% network utilization.
Physical access to the data centre is restricted to an approved list of personnel. Obtaining access to the building after-hours requires a magnetic key card that must be swiped in multiple locations. In addition, dual pin-pads are in place within the data centre and must be used to enter and exit the location. 24 hour on-site security guards monitor all access to the building. Once inside the facility, a physical key is required to access the racks of equipment while multiple video cameras record all activity 24x7.
Availability of the network relies on consistent power. The power systems in the data centre are designed to deliver continuous, conditioned power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by implementing redundant power feeds. Battery backup via UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) ensures that brown-outs, power spikes and brief power outages do not affect critical equipment, while diesel power generators prevent downtime in the event of an extended power outage.
Redundant heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) provide the network equipment with optimal working conditions. These systems are continuously monitored and staff are alerted immediately in the event of a failure. A two-stage fire suppressant system, which limits the distribution of water in the event of a fire, minimizes potential water damage to equipment.
