The Edge Management Point-Of-Sale (POS) application is used but over 3000 salons and spas worldwide. Some of these salons are large chains that are independently owned however belong to the same franchise. In an effort to increase sales to these large chains, the Edge application needed the ability to centralize some of its data which was previously stored at each individual salon. Specifically, Edge wanted a way for salon chains that sold gift cards to be able to track where the purchase was made, and which stores redeemed every amount on the card.
A unique strategy was needed to solve this unique problem. Oracast immediately began examining the Edge POS application and its data, since any limitations in our ability to create a solution would most likely have occurred here. After analyzing the current system, we worked together to create a plan and assigned two teams to the project. The first team would work on the Edge POS application, while the second team worked on the new Centralized Gift Certificates web application service.
With both teams working independently, the solution was developed. The POS application would communicate with the web application service when transactions involved gift cards, and on a scheduled basis to ensure all of the data was kept up to date. Custom reports were created to view outstanding gift certificates, and an online management website was developed for the enterprise to oversee all transactions and quickly gather enterprise-wide data using these reports.
Edge Management Systems has sold their first Centralized Gift Certificate subscription to Chatters Canada, which has over 70 salons in North America. Using this project as a test-bed for future enhancements, Edge is working with Oracast to develop a complete Enterprise web application to manage all aspects of the salon from an enterprise level.
